The
Problem

needed to make a move to Hydro-forming to meet its customer’s
new design requirements. The risks were evident and the manufacturer
needed a tube supplier that could help pioneer this new product
development effort.

The management team at Shelby Welded Tube worked closely with the
customer through the prototype process to identify the necessary
metallurgical properties and forming methods that would facilitate
Hydro-forming. The result was a consistent process that, in the
end, provided the OEM with the design it wanted, at the quality
it needed in the time frame that was required, and at an acceptable
cost. Today, Shelby’s customer is a premiere manufacturer
in this market, with a high reputation for being an industry leader
in technology,especially Hydro-forming.

Speed, Flexibility Keeps Plant From Shutting Down
The
Problem
A manufacturer having difficulties with its internal tube process
came to Shelby Welded Tube with a critical problem: They needed
parts in 2 days or faced the costly potential of shutting down their
automotive OEM customer.
The
Solution
First, Shelby Welded Tube was able to deliver tubing in 2 days,
within the stringent quality specifications needed in this critical
application. As a result, the OEM plant shut down was averted. As
a permanent win/win solution, Shelby Welded Tube developed a financial
arrangement that included the purchase of the customer’s tube
producing equipment, combined with a long-term contract to continue
supplying tubing for this critical application.
